How To Install Android 4.1.On Galaxy S3 Through Leaked ROM?

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S3, its flagship smartphone in May as a biggest threat to the Android heavyweights in the smartphone arena. The handset with its massive display and exclusive features made the enormous heads turn towards itself.

A month after the smartphone’s release, Google unveiled the next iteration of its Android operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which created a crave among the users to have Jelly Bean on their Galaxy S3 handsets.

Relatively, on Thursday a leaked build of the OS surfaced in the tech media world claiming to give users “the chance to test the first Jelly Bean ROM by Samsung.”

A video on YouTube has been posted by AndroidMX, which looks like an evidence to prove that Samsung is working hard on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade for the Galaxy S3. In the video, a Galaxy S3 handset is seen running an early build of the Jelly Bean ROM which is quite stable and resembles a final release build. This early ROM build is dubbed i9300XADLG4.

The build in the video shows all the features of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean – Project Butter, Google Now, Google’s voice search, virtual keyboard and expanded notifications. Also, a new clock (in line with JB vanilla) in the notification bar, a function called “Dormant mode”, a couple of new Live Wallpapers, “Palm swipe” allowing screenshot, Reboot into “safe mode”, however, there were some bugs as well.

According to SamMobile report they faced “some troubles, for instance the internal SDCARD got formatted and some apps can’t be installed due to problems with smdl2tmp1.asec (which can’t be found at all).”

These problems could also be local to the specific device. A good suggestion is to prepare a backup of everything prior flash,” said the report.

At the same time, the site also provided the steps for flashing the ROM. Although, the user should be careful enough to know a some important points before attempting flashing.

• The upgrade is a pre-release version of the OS and not official one from KIES.
• The flashing will void your warranty after rooting the device.
• The device must be rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery flashed.
• Make sure that you have taken a NANdroid backup in case things go wrong.
• Also a warning that using the method involves risk of data damage. Gizbot recommends users to proceed at their own risk and we will not be held responsible for any consequences.
• All users must keep back-ups of important data and smartphone settings.

Now you may proceed

1. Download Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (Leaked Build: I9300XXDLG4) and ODIN v1.85. Here is the download link.

2. Extract the contents of both zip files.

3. Shut down the Galaxy S3. Press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons to go into Download Mode.

4. Launch ODIN on your PC from the .zip, extracted in Step 2.

5. Connect the Galaxy S3 with your PC. ODIN will show a message saying it has recognized the device.

6. From ODIN, click on PDA and choose CODE_I9300XXDLG4_11164_REV00_eng_mid_noship.tar.md5 which will be inside the Jelly Bean ROM, extracted in Step 2.

7. Please be sure that you have unchecked re-partition. Click Start.

8. As mentioned by the XDA developer, your S3 will now go into the boot loop. Remove your device’s battery and put it back again.

9. Following that, boot into ClockworkMod Recovery by pressing and holding Home + Power + Volume Up.

10. Select wipe / factory reset.

11. Select reboot system now.
