Apple seems to have forgotten to name its new iPad as it is simply
called “The New iPad”. Quite surprising isn’t it? But it could turn out
to be one of Apple’s best marketing plans yet. The way we see it, Apple
is planning to continue the production of the iPad 2 tablet lineup in
order to compete with the cheaper tablets in the market like the
Blackberry Playbook and the numerous Android tablets in the market.
The
California-based company also revealed that the much awaited iPad will
start selling at $499 when it releases on March 16th. On the other
hand, the price of the “still amazing” iPad 2 will be slashed to $399
for the Wi-Fi version.
As expected,
the new iPad comes with a new Retina display that increases the screen
resolution of the device to 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, which is significantly
higher than many of the HDTVs and desktops currently available in the
market today. The design and size of the new device are more or less the
same as with the iPad 2. But if you will delve into the details, what’s
inside the new iPad is actually more different.
Here are a few highlights of the new device:
- 2048×1536 pixel resolution with 264 ppi as compared to 1024×768 pixels with 132ppi on the iPad2
- Dual Core A5x processor with a quad core graphics card
- Available in 16 GB/ 32 GB/ 64 GB versions
- iSight camera with 1080p recording (rear)
- Support for 4G LTE network
- Bluetooth 4.0 support
- Increased battery life : 10 hours battery life and 9 hours on a 4G LTE network
What
impresses us is the fact that Apple has managed to cram all of the new
features without increasing the size of the device. It is 9.5” tall and
7.31” wide, while the thickness is 0.37’ only and it weighs roughly 1.5
pounds. Pre-orders have already begun for the new iPad and it looks like
Siri will not be part of the package as expected although it does have a
voice dictation software that supports multiple languages.
