Acer's budget 15.6in laptop lacks in looks, however, it more than
makes up for with a generous specification: with a Core i3 CPU and a
dedicated Nvidia graphics chipset, this £430 Acer crams in a huge amount
for the money. It's a solid, sturdy laptop with a drab, mottled-grey interior and
darker grey lid, broken up by a wash of glossy black around the screen
and hinge. The large keyboard has well-spaced keys and a solid base
beneath its flat-headed keys, and there's a numeric keypad, too. The
touchpad is quite small, and the rocker-style buttons feel muffled when
clicked, but on the whole it's a comfortable laptop to use for long
periods. Those periods won't be as long as the best here, but a light-use battery
life of 6hrs 9mins is still exceedingly good. That's due, in the main,
to Nvidia's Optimus technology, which automatically switches to the
low-power graphics when appropriate. For more intensive tasks, the
discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 540M chip roars into life. In the Crysis test
at Medium quality settings, the Acer managed an impressive average of
36fps. It will comfortably play the many less demanding games released
since Crysis first arrived to torment graphics cards. The rest of the specification is perfectly acceptable budget fare.
The 2.1GHz Core i3-2310M and 6GB of RAM are powerful enough to earn the
Acer a result of 0.55 in our Real World benchmarks, and the 640GB hard
disk is a welcome sight, too.The 15.6in 1,366 x 768 screen is impressively bright, with a maximum
brightness level of 261cd/m2 putting it well ahead of most budget
laptops. Contrast still isn't particularly strong - the 196:1 contrast
ratio is merely average - but colours are pretty accurate and the glossy
finish doesn't prove too reflective under normal usage.Connectivity is ample. There's one USB 3 port on the right edge, and
two further USB 2 ports. It has both

Top news HP Envy 6 review
HP’s latest laptop, the Envy 6,
aims to bring Ultrabook luxury to the budget end of the market – and it
does so by opting for one of AMD’s Trinity chips.HP calls its AMD-powered Ultrabook rival a “Sleekbook” and, at first
glance, there’s little difference between this £499 inc VAT machine and
many of the Ultrabooks we’ve seen. The brushed-metal finish and red
detailing lends the Envy a sense of style that’s up there with many more
expensive Intel-powered rivals. Its 15.6in display means that it isn’t
as svelte as many of its Ultrabook rivals, but it isn’t far off: at 20mm
thick and just over 2kg in weight, this is as impressively honed as any
£499 laptop we’ve seen.Behind the scenes, it’s AMD’s Trinity platform that takes centre
stage. AMD prefers to describe its processors as accelerated processing
units, or APUs, and HP has used the A6-4455M – the lesser of two
low-power APUs – in the Envy 6. The dual-core CPU architecture runs at
2.1GHz, and uses AMD’s Turbo Core to dynamically overclock to 2.6GHz.
That sounds impressive, but the HP’s modest benchmark score of 0.37 is
way behind the Intel-powered Ultrabooks – by comparison, Asus’ Zenbook UX31E scored 0.62.As ever, though, it’s the graphics performance that buoys the AMD
APU’s appeal. A Radeon HD 7500G core has been crammed into the A6-4455M,
and the GPU contains 256 stream processors with stock and Turbo clocks
of 327MHz and 424MHz.We couldn’t get Crysis

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Incredibly light for a 14-inch laptop, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is ruggedly built, and has a better keyboard than any ultrabook-style laptop, even Apple's MacBook Air.Lenovo, keeper of the venerated ThinkPad brand, was one of the first Windows laptop makers to directly take on Apple's MacBook Air, with its 13-inch ThinkPad X1. This was before Intel had begun publicly branding thin laptops with its trademarked ultrabook
tag, and the rules for this new class of thin laptops were still in
flux. We called that original X1 "an appealing middle ground for
business road warriors," but also said, "It's not as sleek or as light
as a MacBook Air -- not by a long shot."Lenovo's ultrathin ThinkPad is reborn as a 14-inch ultrabook, the X1 Carbon. When we first spotted
the X1 Carbon at a Lenovo press event earlier in 2012, I thought it
might not depart enough from the original. The name was nearly the same
(not even called the "X2"), and it looked a bit thinner, but not all
that much evolved from last year's X1.Getting an opportunity to test and review the final version of the
ThinkPad X1 Carbon makes a big difference. Lenovo previously stated that
it would be the world's lightest 14-inch laptop at 3 pounds, and in the
hand, you can definitely feel it. This is clearly a premium product,
thanks to the light weight and the carbon fiber lid.

How to Sync Contacts in Android
With the changing times the options of selecting phones and service
providers has grown far beyond expectations. You can change phones and
service providers as fast as you want to. But with these changes have
posed the challenge of retaining one’s contacts and regularly updating
them without much of a hassle especially with the Android devices.
Android phones certainly offer a new level of effectiveness and
integration because of the two-way syncing of contacts in real-time from
the computer to phone and vice–versa. This article tries to put in place
a few important tips that we need to bear in mind while syncing
contacts of Android phones.
Setting up a Google Account:
Users
getting started with the Android phone users are prompted to set a
Google account. Though many users, for lack of knowledge, take this to
be an unnecessary exercise, but you must believe it this is the best
option when compared to using the highly priced syncing software’s
available in the market. Once you have created a Google account using
the Android phone becomes much easier and the experience becomes more
refreshing rather than frustrating.
Contact Synchronization:
Contacts can be exported and imported with the help of existing software in a Coma Separated values (CSV) file format.

Motorola Razr i: Intel’s Brainchild with 2GHz Processor, ICS And 8MP Camera
Motorola
Mobility and the chip maker Intel announced their partnership during
the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 and recently they sent out invites for a press conference on September 18 in London, hinting at the unveil of a new smartphone.
In the past few weeks, several reports from numerous sources confirmed that Motorola’s new smartphone will have an edge-to-edge display and LTE network support.
Hence, following the Indian handset vendor, Lava, who unveiled the first Intel smartphone – Xolo 900
in April – Motorola the US based smartphone manufacturer in London
today, unveiled its first handset of its multi-year, multi-device
partnership with the chip maker. The new handset dubbed as Razr i is
powered by the Intel Atom processor
and it is a revamped version of Droid Razr M, which was unveiled at an
event on September 5 alongside Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx.Though
both the handsets look alike from on the exterior, however, the Intel
Medfield processor in the Razr i is claimed to have a maximum clock
speed of 2GHz.
Commenting at the launch event, Jim Wicks, senior vice president, Consumer Experience Design, Motorola Mobility was
quoted saying “Together with Intel, we’re redefining what people can
expect from a mobile device. A camera that launches in an instant, Web

long battery life.”Boasting

Tips-How to prevent phone and tablet theft
if you're under the age of 25, there's almost an even chance you have
lost your cell phone or had it stolen at least once. According to a Pew
Research Center survey conducted last April, 45 percent of cell phone
users between the ages of 18 and 24 have had a phone lost or stolen.
The survey also found that 3 out of 10 cell phone users between the
ages of 35 and 54 have misplaced their device or had it stolen, as
Kashmir Hill reports on Forbes.com.
There's nothing new about cell phones being popular targets for
thieves, but today's smartphone is a full-fledged computer that stores
all kinds of sensitive personal data: passwords, contacts, documents,
Internet history, and more.
One reason smartphones are so popular with thieves is how easy it has
been to reprogram and resell the devices. Verizon, Sprint, and (more
recently) AT&T make it more difficult to resell a phone that someone
has reported to the carriers as stolen. T-Mobile is expected to provide
a similar service soon.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission made news last spring by
announcing joint initiatives with carriers and law enforcement to create a centralized database of lost and stolen cell phones. The database promises to serve as a deterrent to cell phone thefts, but it is still many months away.
Lower your phone's profile in public-
A young woman I know has had three iPhones stolen in the last three months. In each case she was using the phone while waiting for the bus to or from school. She now waits until she's on the bus before taking the phone out of her bag.

Students should know their electronic devices are at risk when
they're using them in a library, at a coffee shop or restaurant, or
while in transit on public transportation, particularly when boarding or
leaving a bus, streetcar, or train.

Top News What’s New in Apple’s Next Genep News ration iPad

In fact, it appears that it has already managed to make the first steps in this direction, and that it is now the third most popular mobile platform in 8 key markets around the world.
Kantar WorldPanel, an internationally renowned company formerly known as TNSWorld panel, is reporting that Windows Phone has started to gain momentum and that it is leaving Research In Motion’s BlackBerry operating system behind.
At the moment, the platform is officially the third largest mobile OS in the United States in terms of sales, as well as in other leading markets, such as UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and Brazil.
The operating system has a 4.8 percent market share at the moment, compared to BlackBerry’s 3.8 percent or Symbian’s 3.2 percent. Last year, Windows Phone had a market share of 3.5 percent, the company states.
Of course, Google’s Android operating system is still the uncontested leader on the mobile OS market in these countries, and it appears set to remain that way for a long time. Apple’s iOS is currently the second most popular mobile platform.
Soon, Windows Phone might receive a boost in sales with the launch of Windows Phone 8, the most advanced flavor of the OS to date, finally capable of competing directly with Android.
Windows Phone 8 devices are expected to arrive on shelves from various handset vendors out there, including Nokia and Samsung, which have already unveiled their smartphones, as well as HTC, Acer, LG, ZTE and others.

Nokia Lumia 920
Nokia Lumia 920 is one of a pair of Windows 8 smartphones
from Nokia, and will probably be among the very first Windows 8
handsets to market.
Nokia scored a moderate success with the Lumia
900 running Windows Phone 7.5, but the new Lumia 920 is a much
improved device all around and Nokia must be hoping for greater
success.
One thing that you might immediately notice is that the 920 uses
a similar design styling to the Lumia 900, Lumia
800 and the N9
with quite square corners that make it look distinctive. Nokia have
also added a couple of new colours, yellow and red, to make the
handset stand out even more. The display (more of which later) is
a subtly curved panel as seen on earlier Lumia handsets, and there
are some ceramic elements for strength and durability. Overall it
makes it one of the best looking smartphones on the market in our
opinion. The Lumia 920 uses some of Nokia's PureView imaging technology
and Carl Zeiss optics, however if you were expecting the awesome
41 megapixel sensor from the Nokia
808 PureView then you will be disappointed. However, the 8.7
megapixel unit in the Lumia 920 has several tricks of its own..
one of the biggest ones is that Nokia have managed to float the
camera assembly on springs to help to counteract vibration. This
means that the 920 can take smoother videos, and it also means that
the phone can take longer exposures leading to clearer photographs.
